Application

Process

The Papa Konga Foundation offers three (3) broad scholarship categories: one for first nations youth, one for African-Americans, and another for youth from developing countries. This is an open competition to all those within these three categories.

Applicants must ensure that they meet all eligibility requirements. Applicants should also attach the following documents to their nomination papers:

  • Applicants must fill out the application form on the website in French or in English and submit their application electronically prior to the deadline.
  • All official documents confirming the age of the applicant. Depending on the country, this may include but are not limited to, the birth certificate, the national identity card, the driver's license, the voter's card or the health card. For greater compliance and fairness, we require certified copies for all documents that are not digital. Documents written in a language other than French or English must be translated into one of these two languages.
  • Provide a curriculum vitae/CV no longer than three (3) pages in a 12 point font with 1 inch margin. Your CV should be written in clear and concise language and should include details, among other things, concerning your education, work experience, commitment to volunteering, scholarships you obtained, awards you received and the list of your achievements in a few areas, your interests in life as well as the main languages you speak.
  • Transcripts from the last four years prior to university entry as well as those from university years, if one is already enrolled in a university. All these documents should bear the university’s seal. In the latter case, the applicant is expected to obtain a letter from their institution certifying the authenticity of the document. The transcripts must be accompanied by an explanatory legend in terms of the scoring system in order to allow a good interpretation by the members of the selection committee. Documents written in a language other than French or English must be translated into one of these two languages.
  • Three letters of recommendation, two of which are written by academic evaluators. These are the individuals who knew the candidate within a scholarly context. These letters should necessarily emphasize the writer's belief in the candidate's ability to successfully complete the studies he or she seeks. One of these letters should come from a non-academic evaluator. This highlights the candidate's social commitment and demonstrates how they inspire others around them. This letter demonstrates how, at their own level, the candidate takes part through their actions or their speech in the active search for political and social solutions within their immediate environment. Letters of recommendation must be written in French or English.
  • The letter of admission to a recognized university of the academic system in the country where the application is made. The letter must specify the program and the year in which the applicant was admitted as well as the total duration of the studies.

Applications are mainly received online. If you do not complete your application, the latter will be outright rejected. The Papa Konga Foundation accepts applications for funding throughout the year. The board reviews individual applications after receiving all relevant information. This process usually takes eight to twelve weeks. Thus, it is important to submit all necessary information at least three months in advance in order to avoid unnecessary delays.

It may still happen that, exceptionally, we accept applications sent through the mail. However, this choice must be justified, however above all, one must ensure that the application arrives prior to the deadline. For equity reasons, no application will be accepted after the deadline.
